About the Artist - Shari Reid
My hats are my way of celebrating a life-long passion of creating with fibre, yarn and fabric. They feature: re-invented vintage textile treasures: earth-friendly fibres such as hemp, bamboo and organic cotton; 'up-cycled' materials and low-impact processes.
The foundation of my work is created from the connections found between threads and fabrics, style and function, artist and audience; between the present and the past and the lessons of my grandmothers; between the head, the heart, and the hands.
My designs are classic - still reflecting the prevailing mood of fashion. They speak a universal, enduring language by projecting strong images and themes from nature.
I produce two seasonal collections each year featuring 12 to 15 original designer styles. My designs could be described as a range between the classic and romantic to the more practical and versatile. Each hat is one-of-a-kind and made with great attention to detail. The highest quality construction methods and materials are used.
In addition to my schedule at the Granville Island Public Market, my 2009 collection can also be found at Comox's Filberg Festival on the BC Day long weekend, and in November at Victoria's Out-of-Hand Christmas Show and Vancouver's Circle Craft Christmas Market .
